Meet Your BOND-Part 1: Inspiration

In 1988 I hired a professional video producer for $10,000+. He and his crew of three came to my knitting school and recorded three video classes for the BOND knitting machine. The videos were popular and distributed in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. before they went out of distribution in the mid- to late 90s.

It seemed wasteful just to let them languish in a vault, so I had miniDV tapes made from the original 1″ masters which allowed me to edit them and put them on YouTube. This first segment was strictly to introduce you to what you can do with the BOND. I wanted to inspire you to put in the effort to learn the skills because there’s a great payoff at the end!

(I was 40-years-old at the time of these tapes. I look a little different now ;-))

ENJOY!

  1. Thank you for sharing these videos with Bond knitters online, Cheryl! They are an invaluable resource and will be so useful for anyone who has a Bond machine, whether the old Classic Blue, Incredible Sweater Machine, or Ultimate Sweater Machine. The work you put into these videos years ago is invaluable. Lea-Ann

  2. Thank you for taking these out of the vault for us! I have had a Bond for several years now but still don’t know how to use it to its full potential. I can’t wait to see the rest of your videos. Thanks again.

  3. I haven’t even taken my USM out of the box, but am thoroughly enjoying your videos! I hope to learn the ropes before I set it up. The more I watch, the more I learn! Your generosity to share this wonderful information with us is commendable! I will definitely follow your online classes! Thank You SOOO Much!!!

  4. Is there a way I can download the Videos from Meet your BOND? I bought a used BOND and It doesn’t have a video, and I don”t have a tape player for video tapes (one came with the machine when I got it.).

    Thank you,
    Shirley

  5. Hi Shirley,
I am trying to make prayer shawls for our church ministry. I am new to the Bond machine. I can’t figure out how to do an edge on all sides that will keep the shawl from curling. The shawls are 24″ X 60″. Any suggestions you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much for your wonderful video’s

    Sincerely,
    Edith

  6. Hi Edith,
You have to balance the knits and purls at the edges in order to keep things from curling. That means you have to convert roughly half the stitches within 1.5 or so inches from the edges with your latch hook tool. They become knits on the side facing you on the machine and purls on the other side. You might try dropping down the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th stitches along the sides and latching them up. For the ends, convert a dozen or so rows into 1 x 1 rib.

I’ll work on this going into fall.

You are so welcome and blessings to you for your shawls and their contribution.

  7. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful workshops with us! I just found a Bond Classic at a resale shop. It had all the parts but mo instructions. Thanks to your videos I will be able to enter the knitting machine world and I’m so excited to get started!

  8. I just started watching your videos to learn more about the bond machine I purchased last month. I was SHOCKED to see the beautiful tiger sweater. My grandson just ask me to knit him a sweater and his school mascot if the tiger. WHERE can I get or purchase that pattern? I have been trying to find a tiger sweater pattern. And it will be done on the Bond because he wants it for Christmas.

  9. Hi Karin,
I made that sweater over 25 years ago (and it got totally trashed, by the way . . . worn to death by my son). I can look for the pattern but don’t think I have it anymore. It was from a magazine and it’s still copyright protected even if I did find it. I wonder if you could just take a screen shot of the video and chart it yourself.
